Empowering survivors, igniting hope, and fostering resilience — at Becky's Haven, we stand united in turning the pain of the past into the strength of tomorrow.
Becky’s Haven stands as a testament to the enduring love and responsibility felt by Becky's older sister, Leanne. For years, Leanne grappled with an overwhelming sense of guilt, convinced she hadn't done enough to help her sister, unaware of the nightmarish experiences Becky was enduring. The weight of this guilt became a constant companion, intensifying the trauma Leanne herself was already carrying.
In a quest for healing, a friend introduced Leanne to a group program, presenting a potential pathway to alleviate the heavy burden she carried. Unbeknownst to her, this program turned out to be Mayameen's Beyond Trauma™—a transformative experience that profoundly impacted Leanne's personal journey towards healing and understanding.
Prior to taking the programme, and discussions with this supportive friend, Leanne contemplated the idea of creating something meaningful in memory of Becky, envisioning perhaps a youth club or a supportive community initiative. However, the practical challenges of home educating and time constraints made the realisation of such ambitions daunting.
Several months later, the same friend revisited the idea, suggesting the establishment of a not-for-profit entity that could facilitate Mayameen's program for survivors and their families. It was at that moment that Becky’s Haven was born—a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of unimaginable loss.
Becky’s Haven serves as more than just an organisation; it represents a renewed sense of purpose for Becky's family. It has become a platform for their deep-seated anger over the repeated failures of police, health professionals, schools, and the council to bring justice for Becky. Frustrated by systemic shortcomings, the family redirected their focus to helping victims and educating children about the dangers of grooming—a cause they passionately champion.
Operating as a not-for-profit, Becky’s Haven relies solely on the generosity of donations and grants. The organisation aspires to provide survivors with a safe space where their voices are not only heard but validated—a unique offering that existing charities or organisations for women in Telford have struggled to fulfil. The trust of many survivors remains elusive, highlighting the urgent need for dedicated initiatives like Becky’s Haven in the community. Through their tireless efforts, Becky’s family aims to ensure that no other victim is left unheard or unsupported, turning tragedy into a catalyst for positive change.
